Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Get an Update for Next-Gen Console
The second week of January 2021 will be a busy week for the Star Wars game series. A few days ago, all future Star Wars adaptations will be handled by Lucasfilm Games - Lucasfilm's new division that is devoted to game development. Following the announcement, last year's Star Wars game - Jedi: Fallen Order also received new updates regarding the next-gen console update.
The free update focuses on optimizing the Xbox Series X / S and PlayStation 5. According to a post on the official EA blog, the update is not only aimed at new console owners, but anyone with a copy of Jedi: Fallen Order. EA explained that the update would improve backward compatibility, especially in the frame-rate section.
The Xbox Series S version gets a slight increase where the frame-rate that was previously locked at 45fps can now be maximized to 60fps. While on the Xbox Series X, there are two modes provided, namely "Performance Mode" and "Normal Mode".
Performance Mode will increase the frame-rate to hit 60fps with HDR and dynamic resolutions from 1080p to 1440p. While there is a second mode, it is not stated whether the game can reach 60fps. But they do mention that postprocessing is upscaled to 4K with dynamic resolutions from 1512p to 2160p.
For the PS5 version, there is no performance mode at all. However, the maximum frame-rate that can be achieved is 60fps and postprocessing increases to 1440p. In addition, the post also mentions that dynamic resolution for the PS5 is disabled and games will render at 1200p (up from 810-1080p).
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is available on PS4, Xbox One, Stadia and PC. The game developed by Respawn Entertainment can also be played on Xbox Series X / S and PS5 via backward compatibility.
